John Shuman created Produce for Kids in 2002 to bring the produce industry together to benefit children and educate families on the importance of a healthy diet with more fresh fruits and vegetables.
What began as a small campaign with two participating grocery chains quickly expanded into its own organization. Today, grocery retailers and produce suppliers across the country participate in two annual campaigns in the produce department to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals and other children’s non-profit organizations.
“If you ever visit a children’s hospital it will change your life,” John says. “The work they do there is amazing. I am proud to have started this organization that is making such a difference.”
Participating produce sponsors donate a portion of proceeds from each sale during the campaigns. We are proud to say that Produce for Kids has raised more than $3.7 million to date to benefit these children’s organizations.
