John Shuman has been honored in Produce Business Magazine’s 40 Under Forty Awards Program as an industry mentor. His experience includes being the past chairman of the Vidalia Onion Committee (VOC) in 2006. The VOC oversees 125 growers that annually grow/pack/ship Vidalia sweet onions in a 20-county production area regulated by Federal Marketing Order 955.

John currently serves as the Vice President of the board of the Southeast Produce Council and is the founder and director for Produce for Kids®. This national campaign for the produce department benefits Children's Miracle Network and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). Produce for Kids has received the Marketing Excellence Award from Produce Business Magazine.  Since it’s inception in 2002, Produce for Kids has raised over 1.6 million dollars to benefit hospitalized kids.
